10 Weeks Old: What's Happening

I've posted several times about how well Emily has been sleeping...but that's not the whole story. She's definitely not consistent yet. Last night, she only slept for 2 1/2 hours before waking up to eat--the night before, it was about 6 hours. So we never really know what to expect when we put her down at night, and we don't have a real routine. From what I've been reading though, it's not uncommon to not have a sleep routine at this age, and sometimes not until 3-6 months. Right now, we're just grateful for the nights when we have those long stretches of sleep!

I've also read that whether your baby is a night owl or a morning lark, that pattern will probably stay the same throughout childhood. Mick is thrilled about this, because he's an early morning person and is looking forward to spending that time with Emily as she gets older.

She's beginning to have much better control of her head, and enough to hold it up for short periods when she's sitting up. She's not terrific at pushing up with her arms just yet, but we're working on it. She's so curious about everything around her, I know it won't be long until she's doing baby push ups!

The other milestone this week--Emily laughed in her sleep! I can hardly wait until she does it while she's wide awake :).

  1. Just when you think you've turned the corner, they let you know that it's not going to be that easy! These babies are tricky! Take lots of naps the next couple of weeks!
