Yesterday, my phone rang around 12:15 and it was Gateway. My heart always sinks a little when I see that number on my caller ID--a hundred things run through my mind, and I'm instantly worried about Emily because I know they typically only call when something is wrong.
Julie, the Assistant Director, called and said "Emily is fine, but she fell and busted her lip a little while ago." She transferred me to her classroom, and I talked to Ms. Christina (one of Emily's regular teachers). She told me that Emily was playing with the books, attempting to climb over the book case (it's a small, one-shelf book case that she loves to play with), and as they went to pick her up, she took a nose dive and fell face first on the tile floor.
When I got there to pick her up, her nose had bled a little, and there was a cut on her top gum that looked bloody, but she acted fine. Christina told me there was a lot of blood, but once they stopped the bleeding, Emily took her pacifier and calmed down pretty quickly. She ate well the rest of the day too, so we knew she was okay.
It was a scare for sure, but she's doing great, and doesn't even act like it's sore.
