Emily is quite the little performer these days—she loves to sing and dance, so we often find ourselves hoping no one is peeking through our windows as we have after-dinner dance parties in the living room. It seems like some of the Christmas music has really pushed her into high gear—we got in the car one afternoon from school, and she was asking for “Mr. Grinch! Mr. Grinch!” I had to purchase the song for my iPod so she can hear it on demand now. Frosty and Rudolph are also some favorites, along with Dominick the Italian Christmas Donkey—very silly, but Emily loves it. She knows “Old MacDonald” and although her favorite part is the E-I-E-I-O, she loves to choose the next animal on the farm, so halfway through the verse, she’ll yell “COW!” or “CHICKEN!”
Her memory is amazing to me—she had a little rash on Monday (turned out to be a reaction to switching soap), so I picked her up early to take her to the pediatrician. We were in the exam room, and I told her we were waiting for the doctor—she laughed, pointed her finger and said “no more monkeys jumping on the bed!” If that doesn’t make sense to anyone reading this, there’s a kid’s song about five little monkeys jumping on the bed. When one falls off and bumps his head, Mommy calls the doctor and the doctor says “no more monkeys…” You get the idea. We haven’t sung that song in a while, but we also don’t normally talk about the doctor, so she evidently remembers it well.
We are certainly never at a loss for entertainment :).
